The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Historical Fiction, 2005) my rating - 10/5 :) The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a World War II historical fiction about an 11-year-old girl, Liesel, who discovers her passion for books and words after finding a book next to her brother's grave. Adopted by a German couple, Liesel tries to understand what's happening in the world with the help of her best friend and the Jew her family is hiding in their basement. Definitely one of my favourite books! The story is so beautifully written and extremely heartbreaking at the same time. The fact that it is narrated by Death himself, gives it a unique perspective which made me rethink about many things in life. I absolutely adored it. I actually read this book last year during a rather weird time for me. I was feeling a bit insecure and this book made me feel safe and it kept me good company. Last week I was in a reading slump so I decided to reread Harry Potter after a long time. When I started the second book in the series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, a thought came to me - and to J.K. Rowling, as I just read :) - regarding Tom Riddle's diary and how it "trapped" Ginny Weasley. source Even though the book was written in 2002, when cyber attacks weren't that much of a thing, the diary has many similarities to social media. Many teenagers have started conversations with strangers, opened up to them and at the end they were assaulted, exactly like Ginny Weasley with Tom Riddle's Diary. Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson (mystery - young adult, 2018) my rating - 4,5/5 Truly Devious is the first book of The Truly Devious Trilogy. It is a young-adult mystery about a school, Ellingham Academy, where the students are all geniuses in different subjects. The first year the school opened, 1936, the founder's wife and daughter were kidnapped on the grounds of the school and a student was murdered. Now, many years later, Stevie Bell, a gifted teenager with a passion for crime-solving has a single goal. To solve the mystery of the Academy. It was the first time I read a young-adult mystery and I was impressed. It is a very nice and enjoyable book. The story is so well written and it combines mystery and teenagers perfectly. I devoured it in a day! It ended with a shocking plot twist so the moment I was done I immediately ordered the rest of the trilogy! Last week I posted a review for The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I actually intended to post my favourite quotes in the same article but then I realised they were too many so I decided to post them separately.
