Books to read in quarantine - or when you need to escape reality
With all those things going on right now, I think everybody needs a way to escape reality. For me, books are the best way to relax and forget everything. So, I made a list with some books I believe are good for this period.
1. Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
1. Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote this book for his children and now it is a timeless classic! It is definitely a must-read and this overwhelming period is the best one to get lost in the world of Hobbits.
2. Mythos by Stephen Fry
Mythos is basically a collection of retellings of the Greek Myths. Stephen Fry's books are so entertaining and this one is no exception! There is no better time for an escape to Ancient Greece than this one.
3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (and the rest of the series) by J.K. Rowling
I couldn't not include my favourite book ever. Harry Potter is the most magical, engaging, enchanting book I've ever read and the one that got me into reading. Even if you have read the series, now is the perfect time to reread them. The audiobook, narrated by Stephen Fry, is also a pretty good choice.
4. The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell
This one, is about Uhtred, an english child who is captured by the Danes and then raised by them so by the time they begin their assault on Wessex he thinks of himself as a Dane. Wessex is the last territory in English hands, ruled by King Alfred. When Alfred defeats the Danes, Uhtred is forced to choose sides. It is a pretty enlightening and engaging read.
5. As old as time by Liz Braswell
This one is part of a series called Twisted Tales by Disney Books. It is a series of retellings of classic Disney tales but with a twist. This one is based on Beauty and the Beast with the difference that the enchantress who cursed the beast was Belle's mother.
6. Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is about a band, Daisy Jones & The Six, which was everywhere, for a while. Their albums were on every turntable, they sold out arenas all over the U.S. Their sound defined an era. Until, on 12 July 1979, they split. What I found really interesting and different about this book, is that it's written in interview format. A really nice read!
7. Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Last, but not least, Sherlock Holmes. A timeless classic that follows the adventures of the high-functioning sociopath, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.
Feel free to comment any other books to read during this overwhelming period.
Thank you for being here 🧡
